D.E.G. Update!!!

Weekend before last several Cachers met up in Wilson to discuss what they would like to see in this new group. From the six attendees and several, informational absentee emails I received, I have drafted some informal information about the ongoing development of the D.E.G. (All subject to change ya’ll)

The main goal of the group will be:

Ø A Group for the Cachers by the Cachers
o No President or VP, a loose structure based on lack of structure
o More on maximizing communication between the members (i.e. Event planning, ride sharing, idea sharing, information sharing and HELP for all!)
o Liaison between the Caching community, and non-caching community (i.e. Parks and Rec, Land owners, Police, etc…)
o Committees to be formed when needed for help and planning
o Recruitment of new cachers (and new D.E.G. members)
o Publicity Machine to get the word out about how great Geocaching is!
o Yahoo Group for information clearing house
o We need a tag line…?!?!?!?

Ø The Logo is being tweaked as we speak!
Ø A Café Pres Store will be ready as soon as the logo is. (All the regular items and more, including beer steins…)
Ø Plans are being made for a D.E.G Seed cache to go out and to also place a D.E.G. Cache in all counties in the D.E.G foot print.
Ø Meetings will be held whenever someone thinks we need one.


Get talking, post your ideas on the yahoo page, this is your group, so you control how it operates and how successful it will be. Post your pics, post your cache ideas, add links, and ask questions. We are cachers second and friends first, we all want everyone to have fun and enjoy the sport, only you can make it happen!

The Down East Geocachers are proud to announce their reformation. With the recent growth of Geocaching in NC and the overwhelming success of the North Carolina Geocachers Organization, several cachers felt a need to organize a Geocaching organization to cater to a local area to act as complement to the already established state wide group.
Down East Geocachers plan to have a relatively small footprint in NC, we plan to concentrate roughly on I-95 East and Hwy 70 North, this area includes, and is not limited to, Wilson, Smithfield, Goldsboro, Greenville, Rocky Mount, Roanoke Rapids, Tarboro, Kinston, New Bern, Washington, and Nashville. A small committee is being formed to identify cachers in this area to lead, shape and form this group. We plan on using the group as a way to grow the caching community, organize events, coordinate CITOs, encourage open discussion, and secure the future of Geocaching, through local interaction. We want to be an extension of N.C.G.O., a local group with a narrower focus to serve, just like the, Triad, Triangle, NC Foothills, Fort Bragg, and Western NC Geocaching groups.
Currently our web presence is limited to our blog site, and discussion group , http://downeastgeocachers.blogspot.com , http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DownEastGeocachers/
but plans are in the works for a web site. Please keep checking back for updates often.
